The March/April issue of Campus Rec Magazine features the new UW-Madison Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center, currently under construction.
Designed by Kahler Slater and HOK, the new Natatorium will provide campus with a home for wellbeing services, a recreational pool, basketball courts, ice arena, expanded fitness areas, multipurpose studios, an indoor jogging track, and an adapted fitness laboratory for Madison's Kinesiology program. The 4-level fitness center will capture views of nearby Lake Mendota connecting students and guests to the unique landscape surrounding the facility.
“Both the Nicholas Recreation Center and Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center projects were built upon our inclusive design efforts and prioritize an easy-to-navigate, efficient and flexible building. Compared to the Nicholas Recreation Center’s bustling downtown location, we are excited for the unique opportunities the Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center presents, namely its proximity to Lake Mendota and the Lakeshore Path. We look forward to presenting campus with a unique facility that fulfills the needs of current and future Badgers to come.”
- Aaron Hobson, UW-Madison Director of Recreation and Wellbeing
