Kahler Slater has committed to two-year partnerships with hunger-focused organizations in the communities of its three offices as part of its core mission to “contribute to the communities we serve.” Through ongoing and regular activities, Kahler Slater will raise awareness for these important organizations by encouraging the company’s network and members of the local community to join forces in the effort to help feed the hungry. The firm continued to demonstrate this commitment by participating in a “Day of Caring”; a one-day blitz event held on the day of the company’s annual staff retreat.
Milwaukee: Hunger Task Force
Madison: Community Action Coalition
Singapore: Willing Hearts
During the firm’s Day of Caring event, the Milwaukee office of Kahler Slater harvested crops and washed produce at the Hunger Task Force Farm in Franklin, Wisconsin. The Madison office harvested potatoes in Fitchburg, Wisconsin to support Community Action Coalition’s Community Gardens Program. The firm’s Singapore office cooked, packaged and delivered meals to those in need through the Willing Hearts organization.
Kahler Slater Milwaukee kicked off its two-year partnership with Hunger Task Force in February with an internal Peanut Butter Drive that resulted in the collection of 123 jars to add to the organization’s warehouse. In May, volunteers participated in a Food Sort where, in a 3-hour period, the group sorted 13,000 pounds of food. In June, volunteers took part in a Stockbox build to compile boxes of healthy foods that the organization delivers to low-income seniors each month, free of charge. The group stocked 12 shipping pallets, totaling 480 boxes, during a 3-hour shift.
In Madison, Kahler Slater began its partnership with Community Action Coalition (CAC) in March by leveraging the firm’s design expertise to help the organization create a more welcoming lobby space that communicates its mission. Kahler Slater organized and participated in a design charrette to generate concepts for the space. The resulting drawings are now being used to help raise funds for the project.
The Day of Caring event kicks off Kahler Slater’s Singapore office partnership with Willing Hearts. The staff looks forward to helping Willing Hearts prepare and deliver meals to those in need on an ongoing basis.
The partnership between Kahler Slater and these organizations will continue this fall. Several planned activities include the Madison office picking apples at an orchard in Cooksville for CAC and the Milwaukee office holding a Holiday Food Drive in November, calling upon its staff, consultants, partners, vendors and their networks to donate food items for the Hunger Task Force Warehouse.
