Sentara Healthcare engaged Kahler Slater to master plan their new hospital campus and design their first ambulatory facility in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Kahler Slater began by listening to the voice of the customer, facilitating of a series of focus groups with women of the community.

The new facility houses care for comprehensive women's midlife ambulatory services, including mammography, ultrasound, stereotactic biopsy, breast surgery, consult and exam space for additional multi-specialty providers, and counseling services such as behavioral health and diabetic education. The Education Center was developed to help achieve the goal acknowledged by the women of the community of sharing information in a place designed just for them. The Education Center and adjoining outdoor terrace support chronic disease self-management groups, cancer survivor yoga and a diverse offering of women's health education classes. Image Recovery and retail services, previously located off campus, complete the comprehensive offerings of the Women's Center.

Across the street from the existing RMH Cancer Center and hospital, the Women's Center is designed to complement the design of the existing campus, featuring a sloped-roof entry pavilion, highlighting views of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain setting.
