Sauk Prairie wanted to personalize the patient, family, physician and staff experience in ways that would attract the best talent, promote healing and reflect the uniqueness of their community while ensuring long term viability of the organization.
Extensive community listening sessions conducted early were key to securing community support for this project. A desire was identified for a more streamlined procedural care experience for Orthopedics, inspiring the creation of an Orthopedics Center of Excellence as a key focus of the new campus, capitalizing on the powerful reputation of the existing orthopedic practice and attracting new orthopedic surgeons. Key to long term success was the development of a strong ortho patient experience that would keep regional patients from traveling past Sauk Prairie to go to the larger tertiary facilities in nearby Madison for their care.
Kahler Slater master planned and designed Sauk Prairie’s new 170,000 square foot replacement facility and 58,000 square foot attached medical office building (MOB), including the new Orthopedic Center of Excellence. A Joint Replacement Center was designed just adjacent to Orthopedics, providing pre-procedure classes and group rehab therapy sessions for overnight patients. The attached MOB provides outpatient orthopedic services for post-procedure care. Sauk Prairie is attracting new Orthopedic surgeons and boasts a coveted double 5-Star CMS rating.
