Mayo Clinic Health System selected Kahler Slater to provide interior design, master planning and architectural services for The Dunlap Cancer Center. Featuring an innovative design created by an integrated team of Mayo Clinic Rochester radiation oncologists and Mayo Clinic Health System Eau Claire medical oncologists. The goal of the new center is to create seamless coordinated care. Radiation and medical oncologists and staff are collaborating side by side to create an integrated experience, promoting best practice and holistic treatment plans, as well as patient comfort. Teleconferencing facilities within the center promote collaboration with Mayo Clinic specialists located in Rochester.
As a center of excellence for the Eau Claire campus, the Dunlap Cancer Center has its own front door and nearby dedicated parking for patient convenience. Supporting a key project goal, interior spaces incorporate family into the caregiving experience. The infusion area offers several options for patient and family privacy, from an interactive social setting, to partially open bays, to private rooms.
Additionally, the patient education center and meditation space offer support and respite. A strong connection to nature is emphasized in the design. Large expanses of windows look onto the nearby Half Moon Lake, as well as garden spaces directly outside. Natural light is brought into radiation oncology changing rooms and public spaces to reduce patient stress and provide positive distraction.
