Nestled in West Virginia’s gorgeous Potomac Highlands, Grant Memorial Hospital is the only hospital serving a five-county region. With cancer on the rise and the closest infusion center almost 90 minutes away, cancer patients in the region struggle to access necessary care with some patients discontinuing care due to the travel and logistical burdens. In partnership with a nationally-recognized cancer center, Grant Memorial Hospital decided to change the course of cancer care for the region.
Creating a new cancer infusion center in a 60 year-old critical access hospital building was a challenge. Leveraging our 5D process, Kahler Slater identified the best possible location for the infusion center on the campus and the enabling moves necessary to make the center a reality. This included relocating their 4-bed ICU to create space for an expanded, modernized and fully compliant inpatient pharmacy.
This project is currently in design and construction. There is a projected $500,000 estimated annual labor savings from relocating the ICU to a location connected to the Acute Care Unit.
