Froedtert Health Community Memorial Hospital (CMH), is a 194-bed, Level III Trauma Center and Certified Advanced Primary Stroke Center and serves as a critical access point for its community with the Emergency Department (ED) being the main point of entry for almost half the hospital’s inpatient admissions. With expected increases in their ED volumes, CMH needed to expand their ED services to accommodate the growing needs of their community. CMH partnered with Kahler Slater to review and update the master plan, and plan and design a new 13,541 square foot Emergency Department (ED), a 15,330 square foot Orthopedics Center of Excellence Expansion, and miscellaneous other interior renovations, including a relocated and expanded Admitting Department and expanded outpatient Cardiology Suite.
Within the new ED are 10 rooms intended for lower acuity patients but designed to be used for any patient in times of high census, 4 new Trauma designed with direct access to specialty equipment and supplies and share immediate visibility from the central Care Team Space, and an additional 9 acute exam rooms, including 3 behavioral health exam rooms.
It is important that the ED rooms be flexible for the general population and behavioral health patients. As such, the room layout follows the standard established throughout the ED, with additional features to support behavioral health patients.
