Carle at the Riverfront in Danville, IL is a 4-story, $80m, 152,800 square foot ambulatory surgical center and outpatient clinic. Designed as a destination site, the campus and facility has become a hub for community needs beyond caring for the sick in a critically underserved area of the state. The campus includes a plaza and event space for farmers markets, health and wellness activities, as well as promotes public transportation access to the campus.
Carle embarked on the new concept of self-check-in and rooming for all patients who come to their facility. With strong guideposts for the project, additional considerations for the facility included exceptional wayfinding and creating a comfortably modern environment with spaces that respond to varying patient types and needs.
With the multitude of patient services ranging from surgical services to cancer care to behavioral health, each space had to respond to the needs of each patient population. Carle has made a commitment to include sensory-friendly spaces to support individuals with neurodivergent challenges in all clinics throughout their health system.
