Located on Marquette University’s campus, the Haggerty Art Museum serves as a community and University asset. The mission of the museum is to “enrich the intellectual and creative lives of students and communities at large through engagement with the museum’s collections, exhibitions, and programs to enhance the student experience by engaging visitors in the visual arts.” Housing an impressive collection of 5,000 works within three separate galleries, Marquette University leverages the museum as a tool to work collaboratively with the College of Education, local elementary and middle schools, and local artists. Additionally, they offer educational opportunities for the campus and community including lectures, workshops, and performances.
The program includes the features of a larger museum, including enclosed truck dock, crafting area, carpentry shop, registrar’s office, conference rooms, kitchen facilities, administrative offices, and adequate storage. Movable partitions assure flexibility throughout the museum. Considered a Milwaukee landmark, the Haggerty Museum of Art was recognized with a Merit Award from the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
